Stevia is appearing more and more often in places where white sugar once dominated: in drinks, desserts, supplements, and foods with no added sugar. For some, it is a natural sweetener and a good alternative to sugar; for others, it is a product with a distinctive, slightly licorice-like aftertaste. Stevia’s popularity is no coincidence: it is many times sweeter than sucrose, while providing virtually no calories and not raising blood glucose levels in the same way as traditional sugar.
