Carbohydrates contribute to the restoration of normal muscle function (contraction) after intense or prolonged physical exercise leading to muscle fatigue and depletion of glycogen stores in skeletal muscles, and the beneficial effect is obtained with carbohydrates from all sources, with a total intake of 4 g per kg of body weight, in portions taken within the first 4 hours after very intense or prolonged physical exercise leading to muscle fatigue and depletion of glycogen stores in skeletal muscles, and no later than 6 hours after such exercise.
B vitamins and vitamin C contribute to maintaining normal energy metabolism. Vitamin B6, pantothenic acid, and vitamin C also help reduce feelings of tiredness and fatigue. What is more, vitamin C helps the nervous system function properly and supports optimal immune system function, while thiamine supports normal heart function. Vitamin B6 supports normal red blood cell production and contributes to normal protein and glycogen metabolism.
